Polyester is a synthetic fiber made from coal, petroleum and constituent acids. The polyester manufacturing methods and processes vary greatly from one company to another. Some of the major techniques used in making polyester include polymerization, spinning and drawing.

After the polyester fiber is created, it is transformed into either filament or spun yarn. Filament yarn is characterised by long polyester filaments put together and twisted to form thicker and stronger fabric. On the other hand, spun yarn is made by cutting the long filaments into short pieces and then combining them into thousands of short filaments.

Types of Polyester 

PET Polyester

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) polyester is made from ethylene, which is derived from petroleum. It is a type of the polyester material that is used in fibers for clothing.

This component is then oxidized to form glycol monomer dihydric acid that’s further combined with terephthalic acid at high temperatures in a process called polymerization.

One of the major advantages of PET polyester fibres have a good resistance to chemical & solvent and good electrical insulation. This material also can be easily recycled.

PCDT Polyester

PCDT (Poly-1, 4-cyclohexylene-dimethylene terephthalate) Polyester is another type of the polyester material. PCDT is produced though melt-spinning. This resulting material has greater resilience and elasticity.

PCDT polyester fibres have lower tenacity and elongation compare to PET polyester fibres, but they have a good recovery from stretch. Besides, PCDT polyester fibres provide lightweight of great warmth and comfort.
